Seems quite effective so far (the page is still under construction), but it does not take over the page, and you can real all of the text and see all the pix. It also suites the theme of the page.
This page has a good background, as it is in a complimentary colour to the text, and it fits in with the theme of the web site. It is not too dark/bright or eyecatching, but it still adds interest as you read.
This background is really really bad.They have used text colours they are main colours in the background. eg look closely and you will see balck writing on the black parts of the background. The Yellow is ok, but you wold still have to be careful about where you were writing.
Although this background is just a flat colour, they have chosen to use bark blue with black writing. Very hard to see. Either a lighter colour or even using something like yellow text would have been better.
I am calling this one bad, as the person has not taken into account the fact the most people no longer use that small screen resolution. Also the dark blue text of the black background is a bit hard to read. The double bordered background does not end at the side of the page, it ends too early and gets tiled.
I used the first example for fixing.
I found the best thing i could do (and only thing really...although there is no way in hell i would use it still) was to increase the colour depth to 16 million and then to adjudt the brightness and contrast a bit(i cannot remember the exact numbers as i didnt write them down) and then i embossed it. After that i created a new layer and filled it with withe, and then reduced the whites opacity down to 41. (image 1)
Either that or you could adjust the image brightness and contrast of the origional to 50 and 60 respectively. and then add a new layer, fill it whth white, and then reduce the opacity till you are happy with it (Image 2)
